Savoir Faire! Loving the outfit on the far right! Need to replicate it quicksmart!
I always adored new wave music for it's quirkiness and catchy upbeat rhythms. If I need to recover from a sour day, I just need headphones and a music player, and probably dancing space. My mind tends to wander into other dimensions when I go on a listening spree. Family Fodder is a group that emerged from the new wave scene - they are eccentric and at times can be difficult to swallow. But if you go into it with an open mind you'll enjoy their bizarro humorous tracks as much as their ridiculously catchy gems, such as Film Music, Savoir Faire, Deborah Harry, and a personal favorite Cold Wars. For me, their lyrics are to be taken with a grain of salt. They're just a fun new wave band that is a joy to listen to.
"Family Fodder was less a band than a never-ending
collective of musicians messing with tapes in the
basement of a London flat. Begun in 1979 by Alig
Pearce, a label called Small Wonder released
their first 7" when they still went by the name
Te Deum." - (Daphne Carr Allmusic.com)
Unaware of the band's original whereabouts, they seem to blend a fine mixture of whimsical London traits and eccentric French characteristics. The album I'm leaving you with is a greatest hits compilation. I believe it captures all their gems and it's a great introduction to the group. You might be surprised by the songs you already know! Here's a preview track, Film Music. Enjoy!
