"The original working title for Kilimanjaro was Everyone Wants To Shag The Teardrop Explodes (this was later used for the CD release of demos for the band's never-finished third album)." - WikiPedia
Which is a great album btw! I may post that one at a later time but for now I'll leave you with this amazing gem. Also an interesting fact, while in college, Julian Cope played in a band with Ian McCulloch who later went on to form Echo and the Bunnymen. I can sort of see the relationship between the two bands through this album. It's magical, unique, and Julian Cope proves to be a real talent. Super catchy, dancey at times, but dark. Highly recommended intro to this phenomenal short lived group.
Love this record. I just wrote a feature on the origins of The Teardrop Explodes band name if you'd like to take a look - http://thequietus.com/articles/09596-the-teardrop-explodes . I got to talk to everyone involved (except Cope, unfortunately), even Gerry Conway, who wrote the Daredevil issue they found the name in.
ReplyDeleteGreat article! What a great experience to talk with all involved in making this brilliant record. That's very cool!
