We come from Wales
This version of the album was released in 2007 with alternate tracks, which include some fantastic demos. This particular version also contains 41 tracks. The original album, which was released in 1980, contained a total of fifteen tracks. This group is a fantastic listen as the weather starts to cool down...and the autumn always makes me want to listen to more music for some reason...
Alison Statton's vocals kind of remind me of Stereolab in a way. They're cleverly placed against the backdrop of the minimal guitars, synth and bass. Their music seems heavily influenced by a blend of kraut rock, 60's psychedelia, and at the same time it also seems somewhat modern. I feel that these guys also influenced a great deal of 90's acts in the alternative music scene:
"It was revealed in the 2003 book Journals that the band were, along with Scotland'sThe Vaselines, Kurt Cobain's favourite band. Courtney Love's band Hole covered the Young Marble Giants track "Credit In The Straight World". Peter Buck of R.E.M. is another self-confessed fan of the YMGs. Stuart Moxham was a fan of Manchester guitarist Vini Reilly's early work, and was also very interested in Dub Reggae." - Wikipedia
I can totally see the influence these guys gained from this band. An excellent post-punk album and more!
